Schools’ Matinee Concerts

“In days where inspiration, awe and wonder have apparently sunk beneath the surface in education this project had all three in bucket loads. Absolute musical gold-dust!”  Year 5 class teacher, Peterborough

Every year we work with over 1000 Key Stage 2, 3 and 4 pupils from our hub partner areas Croydon, Tower Hamlets, Peterborough, Medway and Hull. This year animateur Isabelle Adams has put together an exciting programme for young people, encouraging them to explore the history and music of William Byrd and Arvo Pärt. The culmination of the project is an interactive concert with the whole choir, conducted by Eamonn Dougan.

School projectIn 2015 we signed up as champions for the BBC Ten Pieces project, working up to a mass concert performed by The Sixteen and Genesis Sixteen. We focused on Handel’s Zadok The Priest, and developed a project exploring Britain’s history through music written for Kings and Queens – past, present and pretend. Key Stage two pupils from nine different schools across London took part in a three-month project including teacher INSET training, big sing sessions, composition workshops at Handel House Museum, and a finale concert at the Chapel Royal in Hampton Court Palace. The project was presented by animateur Sam Glazer, and conducted by Eamonn Dougan.

In 2017 we will deliver two different matinee projects: one on The Fairy Queen by Purcell and the other on our Choral Pilgrimage 2017 programme.
