What is your favourite Sixteen anecdote?
Christus collapsing on stage during the St John Passion at Casa da Musica, Porto at the critical moment. Some audience members were disgusted at such bad taste, not realising that he was genuinely ill.
What do you do to relax in your spare time?
If you could perform in any venue, what / where would it be?
Nothing beats the Wigmore Hall.
Is there a piece you have fallen in love with since performing it with The Sixteen?
Mozart’s C minor mass.
What has been the most challenging piece of music you have ever performed?
Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius. After years of early music, this 1st-violin part was a real shock for the left hand!
Does anyone in The Sixteen have any annoying or unusual habits?!
Yes. (I notice with relief we’re not asked to name them.)
Do you have a party trick and if so, what is it?!
The one I’m always asked to perform is the obvious one for every Welsh speaker: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. Many years ago on Robinson Chapel choir tours it was always “Hi-de-Hi Campers”.
Who were you, or would you be nervous to meet?
What do you think you would be doing if you weren’t a musician?
What would your ultimate desert island disc be?
Beethoven’s C major Mass.
What would you eat for your last supper?
Pasta with wild garlic pesto
And the obligatory question…What football team do you support?!
Assuming you mean rugby football, the Neath Swansea Ospreys.
