What’s On

Welcome to The Sixteen’s 2016 – 2017 Season

We have a rich and varied line-up this season which we hope will tantalise and inspire!

We are delighted to be continuing our residencies with Kings Place and Wigmore Hall in London and the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. It is wonderful to have the opportunity to develop relationships with these key venues and their audiences and to build a long term artistic plan.

One of the undoubted highlights of our season is the world premiere performance, and tour, of a major new James MacMillan work Stabat Mater, commissioned by the Genesis Foundation for The Sixteen. Harry and the choir have enjoyed a long association with MacMillan ever since commissioning O bone Jesu for our 2002 Choral Pilgrimage. We are excited to be joining forces for the first time with leading UK ensemble Britten Sinfonia for this world premiere at the Barbican on 15 October which will be followed by further performances around the UK.

The backbone of our artistic calendar continues to be informed by our desire to take beautiful and inspiring choral music to as wide an audience as we possibly can. To this end our season will continue with our ever-popular Choral Pilgrimage tour to at least 30 destinations across the UK; a tour of eight UK locations by both our choir and orchestra with an all-Bach programme including his exuberant Magnificat; and a tour of festive a cappella music in December to get you in the Christmas mood.

Alongside all of this concert activity we will have a full programme of outreach projects behind the scenes working with primary and secondary school children, young singers on our Genesis Sixteen scheme, and keen amateur singers through our workshops.
