On 22 May 2018, Classic FM streamed our concert live from Eton College Chapel. Featuring four new Genesis Foundation commissions, from Sir James MacMillan and emerging composers Phillip Cooke, Marco Galvani and Joseph Phibbs, the programme centred around the Eton Choirbook and its sacred music legacy. Each of the new works used texts from this iconic music manuscript; one of only three collections of Latin liturgical music to survive the Reformation.
The Sixteen and Harry Christophers were joined by eight Genesis Sixteen alumni and Eton College Chapel Choir under the direction of Tim Johnson.
‘Our longstanding relationship with both the Genesis Foundation and James MacMillan is one we treasure and I am so looking forward to performing four Genesis Foundation commissions which are inspired by The Eton Choirbook. A miracle both physically and symbolically, we are so fortunate that The Eton Choirbook survived the Reformation so that we can enjoy its extraordinarily complex works whose legacy continues to inspire new sacred choral music in the 21st century.’ Harry Christophers
The concert will now be available to watch for one month on the Classic FM website
