These performances are part of Sounds Sublime, a special one-day choral festival curated by The Sixteen, celebrating the passion, joy and diversity of the human voice.

Exodus

Exodus is an exceptional chamber choir that emerged in 2022 from their participation in The Sixteen’s Genesis Sixteen programme. Led by the accomplished young conductor Olivia Tait, the choir comprises talented singers with diverse backgrounds united by their love for choral music. Known for their captivating performances, Exodus ventures beyond the familiar repertoire, actively championing lesser-known works, especially those by female composers. From traditional masterpieces to contemporary and underrepresented compositions, they showcase the rich musical tapestry and celebrate the contributions of women in the world of music.

Solstice 

Solstice Choral Ensemble is a Cardiff based octet made up of current and graduate students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Established during this last academic year to expand on a love of choral singing, their past performances range from the music of Tallis to Whitacre, with highlights including performances of Faure’s Requiem and Brahms’s Neue Liebeslieder. They have recently worked with local composer Tomos Owen Jones on a new commission, and are excited to be performing as part of the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Festival.

The Mancunium Consort

The Mancunium Consort is an up-and-coming vocal ensemble based in Manchester, UK. The choir, founded in January 2023 by Harry Mobbs and Joseph Taylor, is primarily geared towards showcasing innovative and exciting performances of early music to new audiences, as well as widening the platform for young professionals in the North.

Levedy Ensemble

Levedy Ensemble is an exciting chamber group who have found a niche performing works for female upper voices and works for upper voices with harp. Levedy Ensemble are particularly interested in the juxtaposition of solo and ensemble voices seeking to push the boundaries of the classic ethereal upper voice ensemble sound. In October 2020 the group were delighted to be announced as winners of the inaugural Carne Trust Chamber Music Competition.
