Irish violinist Sarah Sexton began playing with The Sixteen during her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London and became the leader in 2013. With The Sixteen, Sarah has particularly enjoyed the many performances and recording of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 in 2014, recording Handel’s Jephtha and performing at the Sydney Opera House in 2012.
Sarah was a member of the Callino Quartet for 18 years until 2017. During that time, they won numerous prizes at international competitions and performed widely throughout Europe, collaborating with many diverse artists including Barry Douglas, the Belcea Quartet, Edgar Meyer, rock band Arcade Fire and John Abercrombie.
Sarah now enjoys a busy freelance career and has performed as guest leader of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Dunedin Consort, Classical Opera Company, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, RTÉ National Symphony and Concert Orchestras and Camerata Ireland. She is also regularly involved in studio recordings for film and TV. Sarah lives in London with her husband and two young children.
