When and where was your first experience of music / singing?
Growing up, music was such a big part of my family. When I was 3 years old, my mom took me to see the Magic Flute. She was planning to leave at interval because she thought I would get bored or irritable. I wanted to stay and sat completely perplexed throughout, according to my mom!
Where did you grow up? Did you have access to classical music?
I lived in Cape Town, South Africa until I was 19. My mom is a musician and so she encouraged me to learn the piano and the violin. She also inspired me to sing while she accompanied me for fun, and this is where I developed my love for singing!
What has been your most memorable performance so far?
During my study abroad module in Helsinki, I performed in an oratorio concert which I really enjoyed! I sang “Viidit Sum” from Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, a duet from Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang “Ich harrete des Herrn” and a duet from Haydn’s Jahreszeiten, “Ihr Schönen aus der Stadt”. I had so much fun singing with the other students in the class and learning more about the oratorio style!
What would your dream performance be?
My (very far-fetched) dream performance would be a recital of French and German song in Wigmore Hall! I would also love to perform a lead role in an opera one day, as I love being on the stage!
What are you looking forward to with Genesis Sixteen?
I am really looking forward to meeting people that share the same passion as I do for choral singing and all singing in general! I am also excited to explore repertoire in such amazing detail and work with Harry and Eamonn again, as this was such an incredible experience!
Outside of singing, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I used to really enjoy dance, and I am currently looking for a studio to join! I enjoy playing the piano and going to classes and the gym.
Are you still in education? Are you in any other young artists schemes?
I am currently finishing my third year at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
