CORO Records is the award-winning record label of Harry Christophers and The Sixteen.

CORO – An Introduction

CORO is an award-winning independent record label. Ground-breaking when it was formed in 2001, CORO was one of the first independent artist-owned classical labels and, over the last 24 years, has cultivated an acclaimed catalogue of over 200 titles.

Launched as the record label of Harry Christophers and his celebrated ensemble, The Sixteen, CORO is very proud to also be the home of a number of celebrated artists from the world of choral music including I Fagiolini, The Choir of Magdalen College, Oxford, and the Handel and Haydn Society, Boston, USA.

Recordings

The label now features a varied and award-winning collection of recordings including Allegri’s Miserere and Tallis’s Spem in Alium; an extensive collection of Bach and Handel titles including Mass in B minor, Lutheran Masses, Messiah, Saul and Jephtha; Requiems by Victoria, Brahms and Fauré; three volumes of Monteverdi’s Selva morale e spirituale and his Vespers of 1610. The label has released premiere recordings of works by Orazio Benevoli, Antonio Teixeira, James MacMillan, Will Todd, Tarik O’Regan, Matthew Martin, Roxanna Panufnik, Dobrinka Tabakova, Bob Chilcott and Anna Clyne to name but a few.

CORO DVD

The launch of CORO DVD in 2010 allowed the label to release Series One of the BBC’s groundbreaking Sacred Music as well as five of the subsequent programmes in the series.

Handel and Haydn Society

Founder and Conductor, Harry Christophers, is also Conductor Laureate of Boston’s celebrated Handel and Haydn Society (H+H) and since 2010 CORO has released all of their recordings.

Label Partners

Through CORO Connections, the label has represented a number of guest artists with links to The Sixteen and the Handel and Haydn Society including organist Robert Quinney, Christ Church Cathedral Choir, The Callino Quartet and The Eybler Quartet. CORO has also worked with The Hilliard Ensemble, Britten Sinfonia, BBC Philharmonic and Academy of St Martin in the Fields, all of whom appear on CORO recordings. In 2010 CORO DVD was launched in order to feature the BBC’s Sacred Music Series and, to date, seven DVDs have been released.
