When and where was your first experience of music / singing?

My first experience of music was in the church singing Nigerian gospel music from birth. But my first experience of Classical Western Music was with my NYCoS area choir in Dundee at the age of 10, which is where I learned to sight sing. I’d previously been playing the violin for a about a year before hand but NYCoS is where I really went in-depth in my music education and developed a deep love for choral music and I will forever be grateful.

Where did you grow up? Did you have access to classical music?

I grew up in Dundee, Scotland and didn’t grow up around classical music at all but my parents recognised my enthusiasm. They signed me up for violin lessons and the National Youth Choir of Scotland in the Dundee area, where I learned about music theory and to sight read. My high school had a great music department and that’s where I began to sing more solo repertoire and did my ABRSM exams.

What has been your most memorable performance so far?

My most memorable performance so far was being the alto soloist in the university of Manchester MS performance of Tippet’s “A Child of our Time”. It was an amazing experience singing in front of an orchestra as a soloist for the first time and I put so much effort into that performance that it felt extremely rewarding to finally execute and show everyone what I had been working on.

What would your dream performance be?

My dream performance would have to be between Bach’s St Matthews Passion and Handel’s “Dixit Dominus” I love it so much! My dream solo performance would have to be Vivaldi’s “Nisi Dominus”.

What are you looking forward to with Genesis Sixteen?

I’m so looking forwards to meeting everyone in the cohort and hopefully make new friends. I’m really excited to sing with an amazing group of musicians and make an incredible sound. I’m also excited to maybe get a chance to sing with the sixteen as they are an insanely talented choir whom I’ve looked up to for year’s as well as meeting Eamon and Harry Christophers!

Outside of singing, what do you like to do in your spare time?

I’m a big reader, I love to read. I used to play competitive netball but stopped when I arrived at University which I regret. I love to spend time with my friends and family if that counts!!

Are you still in education? Are you in any other young artists schemes?

I have just finished my 2nd year as a music student at The University of Manchester which I’ve really enjoyed so far. I sing with the chamber choir there (Ad Solem) and I am also a Manchester Heartedge Scholar under Andrew Earis which has been a great experience for me.

Outside of performances with Genesis Sixteen, have you got any concerts coming up?

I am a member of the Mancunium Consort which is Manchester based choir managed by Harry Mobbs, a current member of Genesis Sixteen. We’ve recorded more music which we will upload on our social media platforms and have an upcoming consort some time soon to commemorate Byrd’s 400th anniversary.
