Come and hear some of London’s most vibrant youth choirs as secondary school children from across the Capital join together in an afternoon of song. Featuring individual performances from choirs including Highbury Youth Choir, Hackney Choral Senior Choir, Music Centre London Choir and Blackheath Halls Senior Choir, the workshop will culminate in a joint performance of three pieces from the choral canon, conducted by The Sixteen’s associate conductor Eamonn Dougan. Participants will also be supported by an octet of singers from The Sixteen, and Genesis Sixteen conducting scholar Olivia Shotton.
There will also be a selection of young people from the current cohort of our Genesis Sixteen Young Artist Programme available, along with singers from the main choir, for a Q&A to talk about the music profession, young artist programmes, applications and more.
Arrive a little earlier, grab some food or a coffee and wander around the central London oasis of St James’s Piccadilly courtyard, with the beautiful sounds of our pop-up choirs serenading you as you go.
This workshop is part of Sounds Sublime Choral Festival, a special annual event curated by The Sixteen, showcasing the passion, joy and diversity of the human voice. This year’s festival celebrates the journey of young voices, from under 5’s and their very first experiences of singing, to the extraordinary talent and passion of our current Genesis Sixteen choir.
