Our 2023 Choral Workshops are a rare and rewarding opportunity for keen amateur singers to explore a variety of music inspired by The Sixteen’s own Choral Pilgrimage.

Under the expert guidance of Genesis Sixteen conducting scholar Olivia Shotton and singer and practical scholar Sally Dunkley, workshops include advice on vocal technique (breathing technique, invigorating warm-ups, voice production) as well as performance interpretation and historical context.

Our 2023 Choral Pilgrimage marks the 400th anniversary of the death of one of the greatest composers of the Renaissance. William Byrd was widely admired in his own time both at home and abroad and the influence he had on future generations was immense. Despite living through incredibly turbulent times and fearing for his own safety, his music is full of life, emotion and vitality.

Our 2023 Choral Pilgrimage will explore some of his most moving works and introduce audiences to the music of his influences and colleagues, bringing his legacy firmly into the modern day with the world premiere of two specially commissioned works by Dobrinka Tabakova.
