Come and hear some of London’s most vibrant youth choirs as secondary school children from across the Capital join together in an afternoon of song. Featuring individual performances from choirs including Highbury Youth Choir, Hackney Choral Senior Choir, Music Centre London Choir and Blackheath Halls Senior Choir, the workshop will culminate in a joint performance of three pieces from the choral canon, conducted by The Sixteen’s associate conductor Eamonn Dougan. Participants will also be supported by an octet of singers from The Sixteen, and Genesis Sixteen conducting scholar Olivia Shotton.
We welcome both youth choir groups and young people aged 13-18yrs attending on their own. Some experience of singing in a choir, singing in harmony and reading music is required. The session will include warm-up exercises, repertoire learning, a Q&A session with the members of The Sixteen and end with a 15mins informal sharing. Friends and Family are very welcome to attend the whole session, and £5 audience tickets are bookable via the link above.

The repertoire we will work on is:
Tallis If ye love me
Amy Beach Peace I leave with you
Oliver Tarney The Lover’s Ghost.
Scores and recordings will be sent after registration to help preparation. We do not expect singers to be ‘note perfect’ but to get the most from the session, we do ask that you come with some familiarity with the music.
Our team of chaperones will be responsible for the young people taking part in the session.
If you have any questions, please email caroline@thesixteen.com
Why not arrive a little earlier, grab some food or a coffee and wander around the central London oasis of St James’s Piccadilly courtyard, with the beautiful sounds of our pop-up choirs serenading you as you go.
This workshop is part of Sounds Sublime Choral Festival, a special annual event curated by The Sixteen, showcasing the passion, joy and diversity of the human voice. This year’s festival celebrates the journey of young voices, from under 5’s and their very first experiences of singing, to the extraordinary talent and passion of our current Genesis Sixteen choir.
