When and where was your first experience of music / singing?
I spent part of my childhood in Gloucester Cathedral where I would attempt to conduct parts of evensong! I actually started playing the violin when I was about 5 but I began singing in my church choir a few years later.
Where did you grow up? Did you have access to classical music?
My father is a priest, so I am lucky enough to have moved around a lot and have been surrounded by music of all sorts from a very young age. I spent a large part of my childhood in North London where my parents set up a strong musical tradition which meant I was able to watch some incredible concerts. I then moved to Norwich where my father currently works in the Cathedral which allowed me to be partial to some incredible choral opportunities as a chorister.
What has been your most memorable performance so far?
I sang in a concert with the Britten Sinfonia at the end of last year where we sang Durufle’s Requiem and Poulenc’s Litanies a la Vierge noire which was pretty incredible.
What would your dream performance be?
What a difficult question… a dream of mine is to sing at Wigmore Hall at some point – maybe a Britten song cycle amongst a programme of other English song. On the other hand, performing in an opera at the Royal Opera House would be incredible.
What are you looking forward to with Genesis Sixteen?
Being able to make some amazing music with other likeminded singers. I’m really excited to meet everybody and hopefully make some great new friends!
Outside of singing, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I love reading, and going to concerts, as well as some painting from time to time. I do also work one day a week for a pipe organ builders firm which is a lot of fun!
Are you still in education?
Yes! I’m going into my second year at King’s College London [in Sept 2025] where I study music and sing in the college Chapel Choir.
