When and where was your first experience of music / singing?
I began my musical journey with the piano from age six and did many competitions and exams throughout my childhood. I moved more formally into singing when I was 16 which is when I began lessons at the Junior Birmingham Conservatoire. I have sung nearly all my life by singing along with the piano or in my church choir. My first memorable experience of singing was at the first competition I did when I was 16 at the Junior Conservatoire. This was the first time I sung classically as a singer and remember this being very memorable!
Where did you grow up? Did you have access to classical music?
I grew up in the West Midlands where I was surrounded by all types of music. I remember being taken to classical concerts, jazz concerts and musicals around the country from a young age, which were all wonderful experiences. This definitely was a large influence for me as I was constantly being surrounded by music, and this helped create the enormous passion for music that I now have.
What would your dream performance be?
I would love to sing in any opera or musical company – I would really feel like my dream had come true!
What are you looking forward to with Genesis Sixteen?
I am so looking forward to meeting new people, learning more skills from and making fabulous music with talented coaches, singers and conductors.
Outside of singing, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I love seeing family and friends, whether that’s a walk or a pint at the pub!
Are you still in education?
I am currently in my third year at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama on a scholarship.
