When and where was your first experience of music / singing?
A lifelong love for singing started with a Christmas play in nursery school; that’s my earliest memory of singing, and I’ve been doing it ever since.
Where did you grow up? Did you have access to classical music?
I was born and bred in Newry, Northern Ireland and started singing lessons at the age of 7. I joined my local church choir at the age of 10 which sparked my love of choral singing. Over the years, I went on to become a member and soloist with numerous choirs and ensembles, including a local choral society. At school, I was heavily involved in the music department and was a member of the choir. We went on a choral pilgrimage to Rome, where we sang in all the major basilicas which was an amazing experience. My earliest memories of classical music growing up are of listening to various recordings of The Sixteen, which my mum always played at home – It was then that I realised people could earn a living from this, and I knew I wanted to follow the same path!
What has been your most memorable performance so far?
One of my favourite performances so far was as a soloist in the St John Passion with The Brandenburg Baroque Soloists, at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel. However, the most interesting gig I have ever done was singing Christmas carols with my vocal quartet for Ralph Lauren at their flagship store in New Bond Street. We were given a full makeover and outfits to wear when singing; certainly, an experience!
What would your dream performance be?
As a Baroque fanatic, performing works by Bach or Handel in the very venues where they were first heard—alongside period instruments—would be heaven!
What are you looking forward to with Genesis Sixteen?
Having the opportunity to work alongside Harry and Eamonn and learn from their expertise is truly a dream come true. I can’t wait to meet all the talented Genesis Sixteen members, and I know I’ll gain so much from collaborating with everyone!
Outside of singing, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I love going on long walks, pub trips with friends and exploring London whenever I can.
7. Are you still in education? Are you in any other young artists schemes?
I have just finished my Undergrad at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance. In September 2025, I will be starting my Masters in Vocal Performance at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I am so excited!
I was a ‘Next Gen Young Artist’ with the new vocal ensemble, ‘Vox Urbane’ directed by Dan Ludford Thomas and Helen Mayerhoff. I am currently a member of the ‘CCI: Studio,’ Chamber Choir Ireland’s training programme for emerging choral singers, directed by Eamonn Dougan.
Outside of performances with Genesis Sixteen, have you got any concerts coming up?
I’m currently a choral scholar with Eltham Choral Society, and I’m looking forward to performing the solos in some beautiful pieces by Gibbons in their concert on 12th July [2025].
