When and where was your first experience of music / singing?

My earliest musical experience of music was learning to play the recorder at primary school aged 6 followed quickly by the flute. The first time I sang in front of an audience was when I played Mary in my school nativity play.

Where did you grow up? Did you have access to classical music?

I grew up in Derby but as I didn’t come from a musical family, I had little access to classical music when I was younger. It wasn’t until I joined Derby Cathedral Girls’ Choir when I was 9 that I experienced classical music for the first time.  I later attended Trent College, which had a fantastic music department and as a choral scholar, I sang regularly in the school’s Schola Cantorum choir.  I continued my musical training at Birmingham Junior Conservatoire, where I was part of the vocal ensemble.

What has been your most memorable performance so far?

Singing the roles of Youth and an Angel in Mendelssohn’s Elijah with Birmingham Festival Choral Society. It was my first solo performance with a choir and orchestra and although I was nervous, I was relieved to hear that my nerves hadn’t shown.

What are you looking forward to with Genesis Sixteen?

Being immersed in choral music, singing with talented musicians and getting to know everyone.

Outside of singing, what do you like to do in your spare time?

My favourite things are going to concerts and the theatre, the occasional spa break and spending time with family, especially my Nana. I also love to dance preferably while everyone is watching!

Are you still in education? Are you in any other young artists schemes?

I have recently completed a BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre at Performers College and throughout my degree I sang at St Chad’s Cathedral as a lay clerk. I am also a member of the Royal School of Church Music Youth Choir, National Youth Voices and have recently joined Birmingham Festival Choral Society as a Choral Scholar.

Outside of performances with Genesis Sixteen, have you got any concerts coming up?

With Birmingham Festival Choral Society I will be performing in their Echoes of Vienna: Beethoven Mass in C and Mozart Requiem concert in November, and Carmina Burana and Rio Grande in March. With National Youth Choir, I will be singing in Carols at the Royal Albert Hall in December.

Any fun facts about you that you’d like to share?

As I have perfect pitch, I can’t help identifying the notes of everyday sounds, from phone beeps to car horns!
