When and where was your first experience of music / singing?

I started playing the violin and clarinet in primary school, and after going to see Matilda the Musical as a six-year-old, I begged my mum to let me start singing lessons. She gave in and I started singing lessons in year 6 in my local church, and then at Junior Trinity once I was in secondary school. My experience of choir at Junior Trinity definitely shaped my passion for choral music and I’m very grateful for my musical education there. My first experience of liturgical music was when I began singing at my local church in Greenwich in secondary school, and then I held a choral scholarship at Temple Church in London in my last year of school.

Where did you grow up? Did you have access to classical music?

I grew up in Greenwich in London and was very lucky to attend the junior department at Trinity Laban, where I learned violin and singing. I also played clarinet, and then bass clarinet, in Lewisham Concert band– a particularly memorable experience.

What has been your most memorable performance so far?

Playing a ‘creepy nun’ in the Oxford Student Opera production of Puccini’s Suor Angelica was particularly fun!

What are you looking forward to with Genesis Sixteen?

I’m just so excited to meet and sing with people who love singing as much as I do!

Outside of singing, what do you like to do in your spare time?

I love any time spent outside, like walks, nature, camping, going to the beach, and any time spent with my friends – especially playing (card) games! I have also recently started playing the piano again after a hiatus during university, which has been lovely. Also, my guilty pleasure is watching David Attenborough nature documentaries– I think in another life I would like to work on those shows!

Are you still in education? 

I am finishing university this year and cannot believe it – it has gone so fast! I studied PPE at Oxford which provided a nice contrast to all my musical experiences there.

Outside of performances with Genesis Sixteen, have you got any concerts coming up?

I’m looking forward to going on my final tour with Queen’s College Choir to Portugal in September. I will also be performing at the Edinburgh Fringe in August with the jazz a cappella group The Oxford Gargoyles. I have never been to Edinburgh or Portugal before, so am super excited for both!
