Where did you grow up? Did you have access to classical music?

I grew up in Cambridge and was lucky enough to go to St John’s College School. Although I wasn’t a chorister, I was still able to explore such a wide range of music. It was such a nurturing environment that allowed me to explore many different instruments until I found what really resonated with me which was singing and the trumpet.

What has been your most memorable performance so far?

My most memorable performance was performing Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast with the National Youth Choir 18-25 and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra in Cape Town City Hall in 2025. It was part of the choir’s tour to South Africa and it’s such an amazing country, an amazing space, and the sound of the lower voices performing the opening bars was just unimaginable. It was really special being part of a 100-strong choir and overall a very special concert to have been a part of.

What would your dream performance be?

There are so many venues that have caught my eye over the years, but I’d say the one I aspire most to is Wigmore Hall. The number of famous musicians that have performed on that stage is just staggering and to be among those names would be such an honour. It’s such a prestigious venue and to perform under such a beautiful cupola would make any performance memorable.

What are you looking forward to with Genesis Sixteen?

Obviously, I’m really looking forward to making some brilliant music with the very talented singers in the choir but I’m most looking forward to getting into the intricacies of each piece, so each piece is elevated above just being dots on a page. The level of detail of the context and subtext that Harry goes into is unlike I’ve ever experienced before and I’m incredibly excited to get into it. I’m also looking forward to meeting all the professional musicians that are involved with the programme because I’ve been in full-time education since I was 4-years old and haven’t had much guidance on how to navigate being a professional musician in the real world. I think gaining as much experience as I can from each of them will be incredibly helpful and reassuring for an aspiring professional musician.

Outside of performances with Genesis Sixteen, have you got any concerts coming up?

I am very much looking forward to performing my final concert with the Durham University Chamber Choir which will be bittersweet. I am performing as Figaro in the Marriage of Figaro with Opera Nova, which is my very first opera, so I’m very excited to that. I graduate from Durham University in July [2026], so I have a rather quiet summer which I’m going to enjoy.
